The Norwegian helicopter that crashed at the Antarctic base at the start of the film was "loaded with kerosine - I count 15 cans," to quote the relevant line of dialog.
Hence, my pic directly referenced the cargo: count the canisters. Oh, and it helps if you know kerosine is a.k.a. paraffin. And the geometric shape? Well, that was just my artistic red herring! Sorry!
Over on the Hawkwind forum, there were 6 or 7 suggestions but nobody there got it either.
